September was a busy month for the Wanda Mountain Boys. We started the month off September 9, by singing for a senior’s banquet at Calvary Temple in Springfield, IL. Sister Betty Johnson invited us to this special event and we had a great time. She and her husband started this Assembly of God church over forty years ago and her son is now senior pastor. We enjoyed visiting with this wonderful lady and sharing stories about her many years in God’s service. On the 14th, we got to sing near home for a change and were with our friend, Linda Kesler at the Friendship General Baptist Church in E. Alton, IL. Many of our friends showed up that evening and it was a really comfortable laid back service, sharing lots of laughs and some good Southern Gospel Music. September 21st took us to the Southern Illinois town of Creal Springs. Pastor Ivan Ryan is a long time friend of the Wanda Mountain Boys. They treated us to a great spaghetti dinner and I’ve never seen so many good pies and cakes. They have just redone their gymnasium/fellowship hall. Bill Schell delivered our CDs that morning as we were just a few miles from his studio. The 21st marked the second consecutive year that the group has sang at Senior’s Day Out at Lake Springfield Christian Assembly. Many of the churches in and around Springfield, IL sponsor this event. The camp sets on Lake Springfield and is a beautifully well maintained facility. We heard some good preaching in the morning session and did a full concert for the folks in the afternoon. We were invited to join the Collingsworth Family at the Nazarene Community Center in Roxana, IL. Mark Carmody promotes this event each year as a fund raiser for Bethel Christian Academy. The Collingsworth Family is a remarkable group that is quickly rising to the top of the Gospel Music world. They sing with a great anointing and it was our honor to share the stage with these great folks. Our friend, Sheron Cadle, also sang at the event with a couple of other artists. Judy Plaster has been promoting the Gospel Fest in Litchfield, IL for the last several years. This event is always a fun time and she brings in some great groups. This year, we were blessed to be joined by our friends, The Chosen Ones, the Patriots Quartet, from Lexington, KY and the group that I used to sing with, Crimson Gold. Joanne Clark and Sheron Cadle also sang that evening. This is always a fun event held each year in September. I have had the privilege of serving as president of the Mid America Gospel Music Association for the year of 2008. I have been on the board for the entirety of the association’s existence. I would like to invite you to come to our annual convention on November 7-8, held in Farmington, MO at the Centene Center. This is a great facility with theatre seating and features over twenty of the Midwest’s best groups and soloists. Ticket prices are $5.00 each night, which is a real bargain if you love Southern Gospel Music. You can reserve your tickets by calling the Centene Center box office at (573) 756-0900. We will also be honoring some very deserving folks with our Lifetime Achievement Award. This will be a highlight of each evening. The Wanda Mountain Boys will be singing on the Friday evening concert. We hope to see you there. |
