May '09 Newletter

May has been a very busy month for the Wanda Mountain Boys. We have been all over the Midwest and have had a wonderful time visiting with many of our friends.

We started out the month on May 3rd with our friends at the Edwardsville General Baptist Church. We enjoyed a nice homecoming dinner and then an afternoon concert. Even my son, Devin, got involved and sang "Long Black Train". You can see his picture in our photo section.

The weekend of the 15-17 was a very busy one. We sang a total of five times in just three days. We started out in Boody, IL at the Boody Baptist Church. As we were setting up, the tornado sirens went off and we just knew that with storms in the area that we wouldn't have a crowd but the folks at Boody Baptist fooled us and began to gather in. We had a great time and look forward to going back in the future. It was great to be joined by Joel and Judy Smith and JoAnne Clark.

Saturday morning found us in Jerseyville, IL at the 1st Assembly of God. This makes our second year singing at their Community Fun Day. We were joined by the church youth group. All the neighborhood kids were in attendance playing various games and enjoying free hot dogs and kool aid.

After a quick stop for fuel and some Subway, we headed west to the small town of Gladden, MO which sets about 16 miles outside of Salem, MO. It was a beautiful drive through the rolling hills of Missouri and we pulled in to a picturesque little church and had a great time. Thanks to Stan McElfresh for inviting us to our first visit to Gladden Baptist.

St. Jacobs, IL hosts the Strawberry Festival each year. It is one of the most popular bike riding venues in the state and is a wonderful event. Wow, the strawberry shortcake was delightful and we had a great time singing for the folks. We pulled out some of our hymns to practice on the folks and they received them well.

That evening we were in East Alton, IL at the Friendship General Baptist Church. Linda Kesler books us at the church and we always have fun singing to them. They seemed to like the hymns that we tried on them as well.

Memorial Day weekend, we traveled to New Burnside, IL to record the vocals on the new hymn cd. It will be called Hymns of Faith and feature 11 of the all time classics including a solo rendition of "His Eye is on the Sparrow" done superbly by Claude.

Other songs on the project are "Just a Closer Walk With Thee", "Amazing Grace", "In the Garden", "When We All Get to Heaven", "When the Roll is Called Up Yonder", "Just As I Am", "Softly and Tenderly", "How Great Thou Art", "Love Lifted Me" and "Farther Along". This could very well turn out to be the groups best project. As always it was great to visit and work with our good friend, Bill Schell who is producing the project for us.

We are having our picture made for the project by our friend Dannie Eiffert and then it's off to Scott Lomelino to design the cover art for the new cd. We hope to have it available by mid summer so keep checking out the website to get your copy.

Make sure to check out the photo section of the website as we have added many new pictures this month including new photo albums with family and friends and in the studio photos.

Be in prayer for JoAnne Clark as she is scheduled for some medical procedures this month. She is a dear friend to the WMB and we ask that you will lift her up during this time.

Hope to see you all at an event soon.
