News from the Wanda Mountain Boys

It’s hard to believe that February has come and gone. We have had some exciting opportunities to share our music this month and God is continuing to open some new doors for us.

We started out the month singing for Rev. Carl Hackney and our friends at Meadowbrook Christian Church. They have started a series of Saturday night services to offer an alternative for those in the community who might have to work on Sundays. We had a great time and were joined by our friend Sheron Cadle who sang a few songs at the break.

The next morning, we had the privilege of singing at New Testament Fellowship in Alton, IL. This church is more of a contemporary church that is more accustomed to more Contemporary Christian and Christian Rock style worship. Pastor Daren Carstens was doing a series on styles and is trying to introduce his congregation to various styles of worship and music. They treated the Wanda Mountain Boys like kings. We would like to thank them for the nice gift baskets that they gave each of us. We had a wonderful time during both services.

Our friends, Southern Tradition, called us the next week and asked if we could be on standby for the following Saturday night. Southern Illinois was hit with a big ice storm and their tenor, Bill Schell, was iced in with no electricity and he wasn’t sure if he would be able to make the concert. They restored power on Thursday evening so he was able to come but they invited us to join them at their concert and sing a few songs. They were at Fairmount General Baptist in St. Peters, MO. It was good to hear our good friends and get the opportunity to sing to those fine folks. Thanks to Dean Ballard for allowing us to come and we look forward to singing there in our own concert this summer.

February 23 was a very special night. The Wanda Mountain Boys were joined by our friends, Southern Tradition, The Chosen Ones and Sheron Cadle at the Nazarene Community Center in Roxana, IL. We were there to celebrate the life of my niece, Jessica, who passed away in January. The Roxana Church of the Nazarene was generous enough to donate the building and folks came from all over to hear some great singing and to help raise funds for my sister and brother in-law, to help with mounting hospital bills. Thanks to everyone who attended and gave. We were able to collect over $3200.00 dollars.

We have picked songs for a new recording that we will be telling you more about in future articles. We are waiting on our music tracks to be completed and then we will be going in to do vocals and mix. We are very excited about the new songs and are looking forward to being able to do the new material out in future concerts.

Keep checking back from time to time as we are constantly updating the schedule. We want to thank our friends Deon and Susan Unthank for doing such a great job with our new and improved website. We are already receiving many compliments about the site and have received several emails already. Keep them coming and we’ll talk to you next month.
