August 08 Newsletter

I can’t believe that it has been 8 months since I joined the Wanda Mountain Boys. We are having a lot of fun singing and traveling. These two guys are great to travel with and wonderful friends.

We started off August in Salisbury, IL. Pastor Kevin Curry and his wife Kathy invited us to come to First Baptist of Salisbury. We had a good group of people show up for the evening and had a great time sharing our music with them.

After leaving there, we traveled a couple hours North to sing for the folks at the 1st Christian Church in Kewanee, IL. We shared in both morning services. They were celebrating music month at the church, having a different group each weekend. We were glad to be invited to be a part of their celebration.

August 15th kicked off a huge weekend for the Wanda Mountain Boys. We had the great pleasure to be a part of the Manchester Music Festival which is hosted by our very special friends, the Chosen Ones. Joining us for the evening were the Redemptions from Fenton, MO and the Nehrkorns from Marion, IL. We have worked with both of these groups before and always look forward to spending time with them.

We headed to St. Peters, MO for our Saturday evening date to sing for Bro. Dean Ballard and the folks at Fairmount General Baptist. They have a monthly concert series and this was our first opportunity to do a full concert for these folks.

Sunday morning took us to Johnston City, IL to sing for our friend Bill Schell. As we were driving into town, we had a scary experience. The local mortuary had the Wanda Mountain Boys on their marquis. We were wondering if they knew something that we didn’t know. Fortunately, we read the rest of the sign and it was an advertisement for our concert. We had a great service with the folks at Washington Ave. Baptist Church.

That afternoon was a much anticipated date for us. Claude’s family reunion was held at Rent One Ballpark in Marion, IL. The Southern Illinois Miners were playing the Evansville Otters and the Wanda Mountain Boys were there to do a concert following the game. I was able to take my kids along and they had a great time watching the game and running the bases afterwards. Special thanks to Jayne Simmons, Claude’s daughter and owner of the Miners for inviting us to perform at the park.

We also would like to invite you to an exciting evening of Gospel Music on Friday evening, September 26. The Wanda Mountain Boys will be opening for one of Gospel Music’s fastest rising groups, the Collingsworth Family. The concert will be held at the Nazarene Community Center in Roxana, IL located on Rte. 111. A freewill offering will be taken. The Collingsworth Family is a dynamic group with great vocals and one of the industries greatest piano players. You don’t want to miss this one. We hope to see you there.
